Dogs in classes

Dogs joining classes must not be aggressive towards other dogs and people, they should also be confident enough (within reason) to enter a room full of strange people and dogs. If you have a dog who has a problem with other dogs or people (nervous or aggressive), please contact us to discuss other options.

Health and Wellbeing

If you have a female dog who is in season, please DO NOT bring her to classes. If you are unsure if your dog is coming into season, please contact us for advice. If you have a dog who is showing signs of Kennel Cough, please DO NOT bring them to classes. If you are unsure, please contact us for advice. If there are any other health issues with your dog, please notify us before attending classes. If you are in any doubt about your dog’s health you should seek advice from a qualified Vet.

Reward Based Training

All of the training we do at Abbey Dog Training is reward based – no aversive training methods will be used by us, and we ask the same of you. Some commonly used ‘aversive’ equipment/methods include choke chains, slip leads, water pistols and rattle cans. We DO NOT support the use of anything designed to stop or increase a behaviour using fear, pain or intimidation.


Payment in full is due at the time of booking for any of our services.


If you wish to cancel a booking for a one:one session, home visit, behaviour consultation or set of classes, seven days notice prior to the first session is required for a full refund. If less than seven days notice is given, we regretfully cannot refund your fees.

Rearranging home visits or behaviour modification programmes

If you wish to re-arrange any pre-booked appointments for any reason, three working days’ notice is required (this does not include weekends). In the case that three working days notice is not received, then the full (undiscounted) fee for that appointment will be charged to rebook.

Rearranging one:one training sessions (30 minutes in our classroom)

If you wish to re-arrange a one:one session for any reason, three working days notice is required (this does not include weekends). In the case that three working days notice is not received, the full (undiscounted) fee for this session will be charged to rebook.


Unfortunately, if you are unable to attend a class which is part of a set course there will be no refund available, however a 30 minute one:one ‘catch-up’ session can be booked via Zoom or in the classroom (subject to availability) for a small fee.


In all cases, refunds cannot be given after your programme has started, except in exceptional circumstances as decided by Abbey Dog Training. Transfers to other parties are not permitted, but we may advise a transfer to alternative training sessions.

Unforeseen Circumstance for Abbey Dog Training

There may be some occasions where Abbey Dog Training need to re-arrange or postpone bookings due to unforeseen circumstances, such as extreme weather or staff sickness. We will always try and re-book appointments as soon as we can at a mutually convenient time. We will offer alternative dates, any rescheduled sessions must be taken within 3 months of the cancellation of the original date.


In the event of another Lockdown (local or nationwide), or if your trainer is ‘pinged’ or tests positive for Covid you will be offered Zoom sessions for any training which can be held on Zoom (for example puppy training, basic training, and some behaviour issues). For any training which cannot be done on Zoom (for example some of the more complicated behaviour issues) you will be offered new dates when we feel it will be feasible to carry out your training. These dates can be moved forward or back, depending on how the Covid situation goes. Regretfully, no refunds will be offered.


Any photographs, videos, recordings or other media content taken by staff during training, events and seminars or other activities become the intellectual property of Abbey Dog Training for use in marketing activities (including, but not limited to, the website, and related promotional activities). It will not be used in a manner that might reasonably be considered to be offensive or derogatory. If you do not wish any media content of you or your dog to appear on our website, Facebook page or any other form of advertising, you will need to notify us prior to the start of the activity.



We will not take responsibility for misinterpretation of advice. Many external factors influence behaviours and we cannot guarantee our training advice will be successful without controlling all of these other factors. For behavioural problems a behaviour consultation is recommended to work to alter dangerous and stressful behaviours. Animal aggression can cause injury, including fatalities. Treatment for aggression is not a guarantee of success and modifying behaviour does not assure the aggression will be successfully controlled. It is your responsibility to ensure safety of people and other animals with regards to your pet. Safety precautions will be advised and may include; limited access to people/animals, being kept on lead, wearing a muzzle and use of gates around the home. We cannot take responsibility for behaviour of your dog outside of training sessions with us.

We strongly recommend all dog guardians have pet insurance including third party liability cover.
